hiya . i am Sean. I was born in london in 1988 for the first half of my life i was in a bubble caused by Aspergers to the outside world. I was misdiagnosed twice at 3 years and 6 years old it took for me till 2001 to be formally diagnosed with autism (high functioning). When i was little i thought everything i was doing was entirely normal such as putting a tape in and out of the car cassete over and over again and at school i thought wandering round the playground on my own was normal i didn't have a imaginary friend or nothing i just enjoyed my own company. This carried on till 2000 when i started at secondary school the first few weeks were ok but as time went on pressure kicked in with homework, school corridors , pe teachers calling me "spaceman" for not joining in games and the odd messing pupil were enough to bring me out of my own little world . Looking back it was good that this happened or i would of gone round in a bubble for the rest of my life but it wasn't all doom and gloom i came 3rd in the whole of Manchester playing boccia for the school team boccia is a bowls like game for disabled people and winning most improved player 2001. In 2002 it all got to much and we both realised we had to make a snap decision there was no hope of me slugging it out till GCSEs or A levels so we sold up and headed for ireland where Dad started to home educate me. And through this i sat my junior cert in history getting a B and my leaving cert in the same this time getting a A. I also discovered genealogy when we went up to Dublin to research our family history and through that i set up a census search business ( refer to www.irish -ancestor.com for more info the social aspect of things hasn't fully cleared itself up yet but its getting there i find it easier to talk to people than i used too . (This business is now finished as all the info is available online)
in 2009 I did my first solo talk on what it is like to have aspergers syndrome. i used powerpoint and the talk to 60 parents and teachers and children went very well. I hope to do more in 2010
my interests include coronation street , the beatles , Elvis, Genealogy and collecting rare records and books. wikipedia is also very good and i enjoy facebook
